I had last week off for my birthday. I spent most of the week cleaning and painting the walls in the spare room and then cleaning and painting the walls in the kitchen. We also got rid of a lot of crap that we had hanging around the house. The local council had their kerbside collection day on Monday and took it all away for us. Of course, some of it disappeared before it could be collected - wierd stuff like an old leaky fishtank, six (of eight) white plastic deckchairs and a dirty old single bed mattress ew! I also built a gaming table - 1.2 x 2.4m for the spare room and we moved a table and chest of drawers in there so we have room for doing crafty type things.

Now that the spare room and the kitchen are done, we're looking at the bathroom. If I could be at all arsed I might start that this weekend. Or I might have the weekend off :P

My knee is feeling a lot better. I went to see an acupuncturist and he stuck needles in my leg. Twice. After the first time it felt even more sore and bruised but after the second time it was much better.

The insurance guy came and looked at the damage to my bike yesterday and all the repairs have been authorised. The tank is going to be repaired instead of replaced so it means I'll be without bike for a couple weeks at some point, but she'll be all better. I still don't know what is going on with the insurance company - I've had two letters from them so far saying that say I "might" have to pay excess but nothing final. I guess they are still looking into it.

Dammit

On my way to my regular Sunday morning breakfast this morning a truck pulled across in front of me with no warning. I didn't have enough time to brake fully so I had to lay my bike down and go for a slide. Now I am feeling very sore and sorry for myself. My bike suffered only minor damage to the forward controls and one of the levers.

New world?

How clear was the air this morning? There was open sky from horizon to horizon. Not a single cloud appeared on its azure canvas, which was reflected in the water of the bay as an even deeper sparkling blue. The city of Melbourne revealed herself, having thrown off her customary cloak of smog, and I could see, in stark contrast, the perfect shadowy outline of the mountains in the distance.

Random happenstance...

I've had a crappy cold for the past week but it seems to be getting better now. Was all ready to organise photo shoots when I got sick too. Timing, eh? Anyways, I should be feeling better next week *knocks on wood* and I'd love to get into it. I also think I'm addicted to Orange Strepsils.

In other news, I've registered to do NaNoWriMo this year. So the month of November is going to be dedicated to writing a 50,000 word story.

I've also reinstated my photoblog in an attempt to encourage myself to take more photographs. While the weather is crap I may only update once a week or so, but come summer I want to be taking many more photos and writing more about them.

Jul. 8th, 2008

Ok, so I've been going through all of my photographs (yes all of them - there are literally thousands) and printing the ones I like. It's wonderful to rediscover this and is giving me a taste for picture taking again.

I have it in mind to do a series of photographs on a theme. If anyone is interested in joining me in this artistic endeavour, please put your hand up here and we'll organise something soon - no procrastinating on my part. Any body type, male or female. Ideally you will be able to model in the rain - depending on the weather on the day of course :)

Of course, I'm not expecting anyone to put their hand up - but you all know that hope is the longest to survive when all else is gone. <= Edit: OMG - how emo is that?

Living in an ark

It's 2 o'clock in the morning and the start of the storm front has just passed over. I'm keeping an eye on the weather map. We've had rain in through the top of a window in the front room again and some small amount of rain in the back room. Towels and buckets deployed. This house has lasted 50 years, it can keep the weather out for a few more yet *crosses fingers*

Raclette is good

Melty cheese, fluffy baked potatoes, cocktail onions, button mushrooms, roasted capsicum, chorizo sausage, fresh ciabatta bread, artichoke, olives, ... and beer

Life is good.

First times this week...

Thursday night I went for a ride on my motorbike with a group of ppl - 67 bikes tearing through the back streets of Melbourne. We ended up out the back of the airport for a break at around 9pm at which point I left the group and came home. Most of the ppl were on sports bikes and I sat at the back of the pack.

Yesterday I went out sailing on the bay for an hour on a tall ship named the Enterprize AND I climbed the rigging. It was sweet! I saw many friends I haven't seen for years too. Shame we couldn't stay for lunch I would have really liked to.
